Report of the Musculoskeletal & Respiratory Physiotherapy Laboratory of the School of Health Sciences, PANDA, for the period April 2017 (establishment) – April 2018.
The Musculoskeletal and Respiratory Physiotherapy Laboratory was established by the Government Gazette of Foundation, Vol. B’ 1301/13.04.2017), in April 2017, under the direct supervision and administrative responsibility of the School of Health Sciences of the University of West Attica (formerly the School of Health Professions & Welfare of TEI of Athens).
The main research team consists of the faculty members:

The Director of the Laboratory has been elected for a three-year term of office, Professor Georgoudis Georgios.
In the period from its establishment until today the work of the laboratory lists a significant number of collaborations and offered work. For the short of the achievements the activities will be briefly described.
1. Workshops-Symposia
Α. Workshop in the field of Respiratory Physiotherapy, organized by the Laboratory and organized by Professor E. Grammatopoulou, at the Evangelismos Hospital, with the theme: “Modern trends for Physiotherapy in ICU”, on June 3, 2018, with free admission.
2. 3.3.
I. Provision of free Respiratory Physiotherapy sessions to Asthma and COPD sufferers, students and faculty members of the University of West Attica and other Universities. In continuous provision throughout the academic year. Voluntary Action Officer: Professor. E. Grammatopoulou.
II. Provision of free clinical examination (physiotherapy evaluation) and treatment (physiotherapy) for Musculoskeletal Spine Problems to the teaching and administrative staff and students of the PADA. Voluntary Action Officer: An. Responsible for. Γ. Prof. G. Georgoudis
III. Provision of free Physiotherapy and Acupuncture services for patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain, at the Pain Clinic of the Aretaios Hospital, on a weekly basis, with the cooperation and support of the Hellenic Physiotherapy Society of Physiotherapy. 3. Lifelong education programmes for postgraduate continuing education relevant to the subject of the Laboratory
I. Lifelong education program through the Lifelong Education Foundation (LFE) of TEI of Athens (starting September 2017 and ending June 2018), with the Laboratory as main implementing body, and in cooperation with the Hellenic Physiotherapy Society of Physiotherapy (HPSF), and the assistance for the practical part of the project of the Aretaios Hospital (Pain Clinic), the Department of Anatomy, School of Medicine of the University of Athens, and the 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of Attiko Hospital, School of Medicine of the University of Athens, entitled: “Training in Biomedical and Traditional Acupuncture for Health Professionals”. The program is addressed to graduates of the Medical and Physiotherapy profession and upon successful completion, participants will be able to certify their knowledge outside of the country and in the country of origin. The participants will be able to certify their knowledge outside the country and abroad due to its simultaneous certification by the World Confederation of Physical Therapists (WCPT) and the International Acupuncture Association of Physical Therapists (IAPT), the section responsible for Acupuncture. The financial management of the programme is carried out by the ELKE of the TEI of Athens and the PAN.D.A. Action Manager and Academic Manager of the project: An. Prof. Prof. Prof. Prof. Γ. Participating members from the core research team: M. Papandreou.
II. Lifelong education program through the Lifelong Education Foundation (LFE) of TEI of Athens (initially starting in September 2017, but due to the transfer of the start date to September 2018), with the Laboratory as main institution and in collaboration with the Scientific Society of Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy of Greece (E.E.T.I.I.I.E.), entitled: “Therapeutic Riding”. The financial management of the programme will be carried out by the ELKE of PANDA. Responsible for the Action and Academic Responsible for the project: Prof. E. Grammatopoulou. Participating members from the core research team: Prof. M. Venetikou and Lecturer M. Vennetikou. Prof. M. VENENETEIN and Prof. Prof. M. M. B. B. BENETEIN. M. Geneticist M. Papandreou.
4. Collaborations with public and private sector institutions, universities in Greece and abroad, scientific associations.
I. Cooperation with the Hellenic Physiotherapy Society of Algology
Collaboration with the Hellenic Hellenic Federation of Pharmacology in activities such as
Α. Retraining and lifelong learning
Project contract for the organization and support, both administratively and technically, of the educational process of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the P.D.A. entitled: “Training in Acupuncture for Health Professionals”.
Β. Research cooperation
A research cooperation memorandum with the Laboratory for the administrative and technical support from the NFEA in the research work of the Laboratory, as well as in the data collection possibilities.

II. Cooperation with the Pain Clinic of the Aretaios Hospital
Cooperation of the Laboratory with the tax office of the Aretaios Hospital for the voluntary action of providing physiotherapy and acupuncture services in the facilities of the Pain Clinic of the hospital (participating members: G. Georgoudis).
III. Cooperation with the A’ Anesthesiology Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece
Educational and research collaboration of the Laboratory in the postgraduate program (MSc) of the A’ Anesthesiology Clinic entitled: “Algology: Pain management, diagnosis and treatment. Pharmaceutical, interventional and other techniques”. The collaboration includes educational work by the members of the Laboratory in the postgraduate program as well as in the supervision of postgraduate research theses (participating members: G. Georgoudis and M. Papandreou).
Also, research collaboration through the supervision (three-member committee) of doctoral theses given by the Clinic (participating members: G. Georgoudis, M. Papandreou and M. Papandreou, M. Papandreou and M. Papandreou).
IV. Cooperation with the 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Athens, Attica Hospital
Research collaboration with the Laboratory, through the joint research proposal for the functional evaluation of patients with musculoskeletal problems in the spine and lower limb, approved by the research committee of TEI Athens (February 2018).

V. Cooperation with the Qigong Research Institute of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Memorandum of cooperation at research, academic and educational level at undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate level with the Qigong Research Institute of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the fields of medical therapeutic practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine andVelonism. The agreement was signed by the Director of the Laboratory, and by Professor LiJie, Director of the ShanghaiQigongResearchInstitute (participating members. M. Papandreou)
VI. Cooperation with the TaiJi Health Center of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Memorandum of Cooperation for the creation of the first Greek TaiJiHealthCenter at P.A.N.D.A. The Greek TaiJi Center will be jointly managed by the Greek and Chinese Universities and will focus on research, education at undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate levels as well as the provision of health services combining Chinese Traditional Medicine and Western Medicine. Training will be available in the form of seminars, summercourses and after some time a full postgraduate programme (MSc). The centre will serve as a reference centre for the establishment of others in Europe and the world. The opening ceremony and inauguration of the Centre will take place on 15 September 2018, while the week of 10-14 September will see the completion of the first cycle of QiGong training for health professionals as well as a workshop on Acupuncture with a combination of Chinese and Western Medicine. VII. Cooperation with the Department of Physical Education and Sports of the University of Athens in terms of postgraduate and doctoral theses and teaching in the postgraduate program “Physical Education and Sports” (participating members: E. Grammatopoulou)
VIII. Collaboration with the School of Nursing of the University of Athens in the field of postgraduate and doctoral theses (participating members: E. Secretatopoulou).
IX. Collaboration with the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Physiology of the University of Athens, directed by Professor Michalis Koutsilieris with Assistant Professor Maria Papandreou (Department of Physiotherapy) and Professor Maria Venetikou (Department of Biomedical Sciences). Ms Papandreou teaches at the MSc “Physical Rehabilitation – Manual Therapy” at the University of Athens.
X. Cooperation with the Department of Physiotherapy of TEI of Central Greece at the level of postgraduate theses and at the level of teaching in the MSc “Advanced Physiotherapy” (participating members: G. Georgoudis, E. Grammatopoulou and M. Papandreou)
XI. Cooperation with the Department of Physiotherapy of TEI of Western Greece in the level of postgraduate theses and in the level of teaching in the MSc “Health Sciences – Rehabilitation Sciences” (participating members: G. Georgoudis, E. Grammatopoulou and M. Papandreou)
XII. Agreement of cooperation between the former Rector of TEI of Athens, Maria Venetikou, member of the Laboratory, with the Department of Medical Laboratories (Fragiski Anthoulis-Anagnostopoulou), the Department of Obstetrics (Georgios Iatrakis-Aikaterini Lykkeridou) and the Department of Physiotherapy (Irini Grammatopoulou-Georgios Georgoudis), in: “Study of diabetic patients I and II and gestational diabetes patients using oxidative stress and “nerveexpress” methods.
5. Research project

TITLE:The effect of unilateral exercise after surgical repair of rotator cuff rotator cuff in athletes with above shoulder height activities
SCIENTIFIC FIELD: life sciences (medical and health sciences) – applied life sciences and non-medical biotechnology

II. Research collaboration of the Laboratory with the 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the University of Athens, Attiko Hospital, in collaboration with the members of the clinic and in the research counterpart on the topic: “Functional assessment of physical and psychosocial characteristics of patients with chronic musculoskeletal problems: study of relevance, validity and reliability of functional indicators” with scientific supervisor, faculty member from the Orthopaedic Clinic, Assistant Professor Andreas Mavrogenis.

6. Educational work
At the undergraduate level, the laboratory’s facilities, equipment and expertise are used for teaching mainly laboratory courses by its members in the subjects: Sports Physiotherapy – M. Papandreou, Respiratory Physiotherapy – E. Grammatopoulou, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy – C.
7. Postgraduate work
All members of the Laboratory participate in multiple postgraduate programs where they have undertaken significant teaching work in the further education of physicians, physiotherapists and other health scientists. All members of the Laboratory have undertaken a significant number of postgraduate dissertations and participate in the three-member doctoral dissertation committees, at the University of Athens and at the National Academy of Physical Therapy and Physiotherapy.
